About the Wheelchair

The Rough Rider wheelchair was designed by Ralf Hotchkiss and his team at Whirlwind Wheelchair International, a non-profit social enterprise based in San Francisco dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities in the developing world. It is the perfect wheelchair for the rough and unpaved terrain of third world countries as it uses mountain bike wheels and only locally available parts like bicycle wheels and the standard bearings used in ubiquitous motorcycles. The Rough Rider's footrests, backrest, and wheel positions can all be altered to give a person a completely bespoke wheelchair. The Rough Rider wheelchair is any wheelchair rider’s dream.
