The Next Chapter in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has always held a special place in Walkabout’s story. As the home of our co-founders’ family, this programme is especially meaningful to us.

In 2010, we carried out our first-ever wheelchair distribution in the Dominican Republic. Since then, we’ve worked alongside dedicated local partners to provide more than 920 wheelchairs, restoring mobility to adults and children across the country. These partnerships have given us a deep understanding of the region’s needs and reinforced our commitment to creating sustainable, locally led solutions.

Today, we are taking the next step in that journey.

We are in the early stages of establishing Walkabout Foundation República Dominicana – a regional hub that will bring together wheelchair assembly, fitting, repairs, rehabilitation and community outreach under one roof.

Inspired by the success of our Kenya Centre, this hub represents more than a new location. It marks the next chapter in our mission to restore mobility, strengthen local capacity and expand access to wheelchair services and rehabilitation across the Dominican Republic, neighbouring Haiti and the Caribbean.

Stay tuned as we continue to share our vision.
