Paolo’s Cortina Dobbiaco 2025

Dear friends, family, and generous souls,

This June, I’ll be running the Cortina-Dobbiaco 30K — a breathtaking (literally🤦🏼) race through the Italian Dolomites that sounded a lot shorter when I first signed up.

Why?
Well, midlife crisis aside, I’m doing it to raise funds for Walkabout Foundation, an amazing charity where my daughter Nina works.

Walkabout provides wheelchairs and rehabilitation services to people with disabilities in parts of the world where access is limited. They truly change lives — and I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated Nina and her team are to that mission.

So, here I am, training my knees to handle 30km of mountain trails 😳 — fuelled by determination 💪 , a touch of madness 🤪, and the promise of pasta at the finish line 😋 .

If you can, please donate — whether it’s the cost of a spare part or a full wheelchair (£250). Every bit helps, and I’m deeply grateful 🙏 .

To small gestures and big impact.

Grazie mille,  Paolo 🏃🏼‍♂‍➡

Jan-Peter’s Berlin Marathon 2025

Dear Friends and Family,

For 2025, I have set myself the challenge of not only running the world famous Berlin Marathon, but also fundraising £1,500 for Walkabout Foundation! £1,500is the equivalent of 6 life-changing wheelchairs for people in desperate need in the developing world.

Please help me in reaching my target, and help Walkabout Foundation in its mission to change the world of mobility disabilities, one person, one wheelchair at a time.

Thank you for all of your support!

Nina’s Big Half Marathon 2025

Hi everyone!

As most of you know, I work for Walkabout Foundation – and I’ve made the (questionable) decision to swap my desk chair for running shoes and participate in the Big Half to raise money towards our cause.

Walkabout Foundation distributes wheelchairs to some of the most remote and hard-to-reach corners of the world, helping people regain independence, dignity, and freedom. I’ll be out there huffing, puffing, definitely not sprinting – but I’ll be running for those who can’t.

Every little bit helps: £250 can provide someone with a life-changing wheelchair, and £1,000 can provide a whole year of rehabilitation sessions for a child. I’m super grateful for any donation and  I promise to run every km with love (and snacks).

Thank you so much! 💙

Walkabout Foundation Turns 15!

Dearest Friends,

They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

For our family, this step was discovering how difficult life can be for people with mobility disabilities after Luis was left paralysed in a car accident at the age of 18. In August 2009, exactly 15 years ago, we turned our pain into passion and launched Walkabout Foundation with an 870-kilometre trek along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Luis became the first person in the history of Spain to cross the entire country with solely the use of his arms.

Our leap of faith has led to such profound positive change for thousands and thousands of people around the world. To date, we have impacted the lives of over 71,000 people through the distribution of over 27,200 wheelchairs in 25 countries around the world. We also operate our Wheelchair Assembly Centre and rehabilitation centre in Kenya, as well as a Wheelchair Distribution Centre in Haiti with our partner, Hope Health Action. Last but not least, we have funded nearly $2 million in research to find a cure for paralysis.

These milestones wouldn’t have been possible without your support. As Walkabout turns 15 years old, we ask you to consider supporting us once again. We will not only celebrate our achievements this year, but also launch our “15th Birthday Campaign” to raise $1 million for our global projects.

Nothing would mean more to us than to have you join our journey by donating today. Every single penny counts and if each one of you reading this letter gives just a little, we have no doubt we can make this dream come true.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

L’Oréal East Africa & Walkabout Foundation

Walkabout Foundation is excited to announce a special partnership with L’Oréal East Africa to support our mission of restoring mobility and creating possibilities for people in need, as a part of L’Oréal Citizen Day Programme.

About Walkabout Foundation

Walkabout Foundation is a non-profit that restores dignity, freedom and independence by providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation in the developing world and funding research to find a cure for paralysis.

About L’Oréal Citizen Day

Since its inception in 2009, Citizen Day has been L’Oréal’s flagship event dedicated to making a real impact on social and environmental causes. Citizen Day is more than just a day of volunteering—it’s a unique chance to share values of solidarity through key focus areas such as social inclusion and fighting against discrimination, mental health, well-being, mobility, and protection of the environment.

About the Event

Together, we will host a sports day on August 9th in Nairobi, inviting our Kenya team, L’Oréal employees and Friends of L’Oréal. This event will be wheelchair-friendly and will include not only our local team, but also the Nanyuki sitting volleyball team, embodying our belief that “it’s not just mobility, it’s possibility”.

Please note that this event is invitation only.
