Mobility Appeal for Ukraine

Four years into the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the war may have faded from many headlines, but for those on the ground, the need for support remains as urgent as ever. The resilience shown by the Ukrainian people throughout these past years has been deeply moving and inspiring.

This summer, Walkabout Foundation trustee Alex van Holk, and his close friends Ernst and Alex, will drive to Ukraine to deliver wheelchairs, rehabilitation equipment, and two wheelchair-adapted vehicles directly to soldiers who have been injured or permanently disabled as a result of the war.

Walkabout Foundation is proud to support Alex and his friends in this endeavour, partnering with Protect Ukraine to deliver urgently needed equipment and assistance to people affected by the war.

Together, they aim to raise £50,000 to help cover the purchase of the vehicles, wheelchairs and rehabilitation supplies for injured soldiers.

If you would like to support this initiative, we would be incredibly grateful for any contribution, large or small.

Amanda’s London Marathon 2026

Dear friends and family,

In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Walkabout Foundation – a charity that provides life-changing wheelchairs and rehabilitation to people with mobility disabilities in the developing world, as well as funds research to find a cure for paralysis.

For many, a wheelchair is not just mobility – it’s access to education, the chance to work and the ability to be a part of their community.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help restore dignity, freedom and independence to those who need it most.

Thank you so much for your support!

Ollie’s London Marathon 2026

Hi everyone!

In April 2026, I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Walkabout Foundation. A charity doing incredible work providing life-changing wheelchairs and rehabilitation to people with mobility disabilities in developing countries, as well as funding research into paralysis.

As a nutritionist, I spend a lot of time helping people optimise their physical performance, but this is a powerful reminder that for many, simply having the ability to move is life-changing. A wheelchair isn’t just mobility, it’s access to education, the opportunity to work, and the chance to be part of everyday life.

Walkabout Foundation helps restore independence, dignity, and freedom to those who need it most. Every donation truly makes a difference — with £250 funding a wheelchair and £1,000 supporting a year of rehabilitation for a child.

I’ll be out there giving it everything over 26.2 miles (fuelled by plenty of gels), so any support would mean a huge amount.

Thank you so much! 🫶

Tom’s London Marathon 2026

Dear friends and family,

In April 2026, I will be running the London Marathon — a race that holds special meaning for me as it marks the final step in completing my journey of the world’s major marathons.

While this is a deeply personal milestone, I wanted this moment to be about something bigger than just crossing the finish line.

That’s why I’m proud to be supporting the Walkabout Foundation and raising £2,000 to help provide mobility to those who need it most.

This amount will fund 8 wheelchairs for individuals in developing countries living with mobility disabilities. For many, a wheelchair is life-changing — it means the ability to go to school, to work, and to participate in everyday life with dignity and independence.

As I prepare to run 26.2 miles, I’m reminded how fortunate I am to be able to move freely. Through this effort, I hope to support those who don’t have that same opportunity — helping provide not just mobility, but access, independence, and a better quality of life.

The Walkabout Foundation focuses on practical, long-term solutions, and 100% of public donations go directly toward funding these mobility projects.

Any support — big or small — would mean a great deal to me and to those whose lives will be directly impacted.

Thank you for taking the time to read, support, and be part of this journey.

Emily’s Berlin Marathon 2026

Dear Friends and Family,

For 2026, I have set myself the challenge of not only running the world famous Berlin Marathon, but also fundraising £1,500 for Walkabout Foundation! £1,500 is the equivalent of 6 life-changing wheelchairs for people in desperate need in the developing world.

Please help me in reaching my target, and help Walkabout Foundation in its mission to change the world of mobility disabilities, one person, one wheelchair at a time.

Thank you for all of your support!

Nina’s Barcelona Marathon 2026

After deciding that a half marathon clearly wasn’t enough suffering, I’ve signed up to run a full marathon in Barcelona this March. I work for Walkabout Foundation, a charity that provides wheelchairs and rehabilitation to people with disabilities in the developing world, and it’s a cause that means a huge amount to me.

Training is already proving… character-building, but knowing why I’m doing it makes every long run worth it. Any donation will help support our incredible work and gives me a very good reason not to stop running halfway round.

Thank you so much for the support ❤️

Celebrate Luis’ 50th Birthday With Walkabout

September is a very special month for Walkabout – it marks our co-founder Luis’ birthday! He is the original #WalkaboutHero and the inspiration behind everything we do.

Luis was Spinal Cord Injured at the age of 18, but he never let it stop him from making a difference. Since launching Walkabout in 2009, Luis and his sister Carolina have changed the lives of over 75,500 people across the globe.

As many of you know, the Dominican Republic (DR) holds a special place in the Gonzalez-Bunster family’s hearts – a second home. In the next few years, we aim to establish a new Wheelchair Distribution Centre in the DR, replicating the successful and sustainable model of our Kenya Centre.

Our new hub will be based in the CODEVI Free Zone, a strategic location that will not only allow us to operate effectively in the DR, but also support Haiti. By leveraging the DR’s stable infrastructure and logistics, we’ll be able to reach thousands of children and adults in need in both countries.

Join us in celebrating Luis’ 50th birthday by helping us take the next step in our journey. Your donation will support the creation of Walkabout’s new Centre in the Dominican Republic, transforming countless lives across the DR and Haiti.
