In April 2027, I’ll be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Walkabout Foundation – a charity that provides life-changing wheelchairs and rehabilitation to people with mobility disabilities in the developing world, as well as funds research to find a cure for paralysis.

For many, a wheelchair is not just mobility – it’s access to education, the chance to work and the ability to be a part of their community.

Every donation, no matter the size, will help restore dignity, freedom and independence to those who need it most.

I will take every single one of those 26.1 miles and give it everything I’ve got, just as you have given me everything my whole life. ❤️

When I found out my grandad had a stroke on 18/5/26, I genuinely felt like my whole world had crumbled around me. The man who has done absolutely everything for me my whole life was suddenly going to have to fight to relearn how to do the things we all take for granted. I was so angry at the world that my papa was going to have to learn to walk again, talk again, and I honestly thought I’d lost him.

But if there’s one thing my papa has taught me, it’s to NEVER give up. And that’s exactly what he’s done. In just 5 short months, he’s back on his feet again, fighting every single day and showing me just how strong he really is.

If he can do that, then I can take on 26.1 miles and give it everything I’ve got. It’s going to be hard, and I know there’ll be moments when I want to give up, but with a papa like him as my role model, I know I’m made of hard stuff.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, I would be SO grateful. Every little bit means so much, and it would mean the world to me to raise money for such an amazing cause.

I’m just a girl who wants to make her papa proud.❤️

Join us for an afternoon of games, community, and philanthropy at Thanksgiving Mahjong, in support of Walkabout Foundation República Dominicana!

Held at the beautiful Casa Pacifica in Casa de Campo, this special event will bring together friends and supporters for a Mahjong tournament, with instructor Diana Mella present throughout the afternoon to guide and assist players of all experience levels. Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the game, everyone is welcome.

In addition to Mahjong, guests can take part in games of Dominoes and Canasta/Canastón, enjoy some delicious pizza, and participate in an exciting raffle featuring special prizes.

September is a very special month for Walkabout as we celebrate our co-founder Luis’ 51st birthday.

This year also marks an exciting new chapter, as we work to establish Walkabout Foundation República Dominicana.

As the home of our co-founders’ family, this programme is especially meaningful to us. The Dominican Republic has always held a special place in our story. We carried out our first regional distribution in the country in 2010 and, since then, have provided more than 920 wheelchairs to adults and children in need.

Now, we’re taking the next step.

We are working to establish a permanent Walkabout Centre in Dajabón, near the border with Haiti, creating a local hub for wheelchair assembly, repairs, rehabilitation and community outreach. Our Centre will allow us to not only serve communities in the Dominican Republic, but also continue supporting neighbouring Haiti.

We invite you to celebrate Luis’ 51st birthday by helping us bring Walkabout Foundation República Dominicana to life. Make a donation in honour of Luis and leave him a personal message below.

Raising Funds for the Walkabout Kenya Centre

Dear Friends and Family,

On 31 August, we’re heading back to Nanyuki, Kenya, and we are very excited.

Every year, we get to visit the Walkabout Centre, where the team provides wheelchairs and rehabilitation to children and adults with mobility disabilities. We love going there, seeing everyone again, making new friends and helping out.

This year, we aim to raise £30,000 – the equivalent of 120 wheelchairs for people in need. We’ve seen the difference the right wheelchair and support can make, and we would love to help change even more lives.

Dear Friends and Family

Two years ago, my brother Seila suffered a severe spinal cord injury in a rock climbing accident, losing movement below his chest. Watching him adapt opened my eyes to the daily mobility challenges wheelchair users face.
This year, Seila is racing his first-ever marathon in a wheelchair. To honor his strength and resilience, I am running the 2026 Berlin Marathon with him to raise £1,500 for Walkabout Foundation.
Every £250 raised provides one custom-fitted wheelchair to someone in the developing world who urgently needs mobility. My £1,500 goal will transform 6 lives directly.
Please help me reach my target and give the gift of movement to those who need it most.

Mobility Appeal for Ukraine

Four years into the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the war may have faded from many headlines, but for those on the ground, the need for support remains as urgent as ever. The resilience shown by the Ukrainian people throughout these past years has been deeply moving and inspiring.

This summer, Walkabout Foundation trustee Alex van Holk and his friends Ernst, Ollie and Alex, travelled to Ukraine. During their visit, they delivered two wheelchair-adapted vehicles and spent time with rehabilitation teams supporting soldiers who have been injured or permanently disabled as a result of the war.

One message came through clearly: while the need for assistive equipment at the hospital has been met, there is a need for opportunities that support long-term rehabilitation and recovery.

The hospital’s priority is to create a dedicated space for sitting volleyball – an adaptive sport that helps people rebuild strength, confidence and connection as they recover from life-changing injuries.

Walkabout Foundation is proud to support Alex and his friends in their mission, working alongside Protect Ukraine to help bring this vision to life.
